What does the Advocacy Committee do?

The Advocacy Committee, made up of Board members, Fenix Youth Project staff, and volunteers, is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing Fenix Youth Project advocacy agenda
  • Training Fenix Youth Project board, staff, or volunteers to participate in advocacy actions
  • Participating in Fenix Youth Project advocacy initiatives
  • Determining coalition partners

What are the requirements of members?

The Advocacy Committee will meet at least once per quarter, with a minimum time commitment of four hours per quarter. As the committee is a working group, members may be asked to complete tasks in support of Fenix Youth Project’s advocacy work outside of official committee meetings.

Members should be deeply committed to Fenix Youth Project’s mission to encouraging youth to use their creative talents to impact social change. Having some knowledge or experience in policy development and execution is also valuable, though not required. Also valuable are: knowledge of the local community; ability to analyze information; clear communication skills.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed by Fenix Youth Project's Senior Management Team on a rolling basis. Finalists may be asked to participate in a brief interview in August 2018. Members will be selected and the committee will meet for the first time in September 2018.
