Open Mics & Poetry Workshops
Teens are invited to attend and participate in poetry slams and open mics. In order to compete in any Rize Youth Poetry Slam, poets only need 2 poems: 1 standard poem and 1 lightning round poem in case of a tie. Poems must be original writing by the competing poet. The slams are judged by a mixed panel of volunteer poets, adults and young people. Community poetry workshops are offered for youth and young adults FREE of charge and are lead by volunteer team coaches and community poets. Workshops will focus on writing and performance. Teachers and schools may request our poet coaches to run a poetry workshop in their classes or after after school.
